9:00am Tuesday 29th July 2008 in Witney By George Hodac
Manchester Terriers from all over Europe will be again uniting at the Witney Rugby Football Club, between Witney and Hailey, on Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3, for the British Manchester Terrier Club fun weekend and rally.
A similar event at the WRFC in 2007 attracted hundreds of visitors, and many of them asked BMTC members to organise a similar event in Witney again this year.
Mick Oxley, BMTC spokesman, said: "This is a rare opportunity to see this wonderful breed in action.
"Manchester Terriers are the oldest British breed of dog, and are one of the 28 breeds classed as 'vulnerable' by the Kennel Club, due to registrations being below 300 each year."
The programme - the admission is free - starts at 10am each day, and you can bring your own dogs and all your family and friends to join in the fun and games, and have a go at beginners agility or terrier racing.
There is a companion show on the Saturday, where any breed can join in, with the highlight being the dog and owner 'fancy dress' competition. The BMTC will be holding a Manchester Terrier show on the Sunday.
Mr Oxley added: "We will be introducing the new European craze of 'Dog Frisbee', with a dog and owner coming over from Holland to give demonstrations, and also a workshop, so you can join in and have a go too."
The BMTC invited Witney MP David Cameron and his family to visit the fun weekend. He cannot come as he will be on holiday, but he 'will want to wish everybody a happy weekend'.
