SCHOOLS in Witney have been praised for bringing a bloom to their flower beds, buildings, and grounds.
The town council's Witney Schools in Bloom scheme, in its 12th year, attracted entries from nine primary and secondary schools.
The overall winner was Blake CE Primary, and awards for a range of gardening and environmental awards will be handed out by mayor, Alvin Adams, at a presentation evening in the Langdale Hall on September 19.
Janine Howells, deputy town clerk, said: "Colourful floral displays and ambitious environmental projects, created and tended by the pupils, were to a very high standard.
"A high degree of inventiveness and hard work had been required by school staff, parents, and pupils to achieve such outstanding results from quite meagre resources."
The list of awards is: Bloom Cup overall winner, Blake CE Primary; Challenge Cups, Wood Green and Batt CE Primary; Best Environmental Project, Batt CE; Best Special Project, Wood Green; Best Fruit and Vegetable, Blake CE; Best Portfolio, Blake CE; Judge's Special Award, St Mary's CE; Achievement Award, Henry Box; Gold Awards, Blake CE, Wood Green; Silver Gilt, Batt CE, Tower Hill, Witney Community; Silver Award, St Mary's CE, Queen's Dyke, Henry Box. and West Witney.
