2:05pm Thursday 31st July 2008 in Witney By David Horne
The man who was in charge of the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill at Bladon has died at the age of 95.
Former police superintendent Norman Brown retired in 1966 after a long and distinguished career in the police force, starting when he joined the East Suffolk Constabulary in 1933.
He came to Oxfordshire in 1946 to the newly-created Police Training Centre at Eynsham Hall, North Leigh, becoming deputy commandant from 1953 to 1956 when he took command of the Witney division of the former Oxfordshire Constabulary.
As well as the Churchill funeral, he organised police arrangements for two Royal Agricultural Shows and visits of royalty to the Witney area.
Mr Brown lived at Leys Villa, Witney, and his funeral is tomorrow at Ducklington Parish Church, at 1pm.
