3:20pm Monday 20th February 2006 in Witney By Andrew Alexander
DAVID Cameron has this week been at home in Dean, with new son, Arthur Elwen.
The Witney MP said he had been inundated with messages of support from well-wishers in the constituency since his wife Samantha gave birth on Valentine's Day. He told the Witney Gazette: "We've had lots of lovely messages, lots of flowers and cards. I was in Chipping Norton on Saturday to take Nancy swimming, when someone came up to me and gave me some flowers, which has never happened to me before. It's been lovely to spend our first few days at home."
Mr and Mrs Cameron, who have been married since 1996, have two other children, Ivan, three, and Nancy, two. The Conservative Party leader was at his wife's bedside last Tuesday, when she gave birth to Arthur, who weighs 7lb 13oz, and has black hair and blue eyes.
Mr Cameron said his son's names did not have any particular significance, but he believed somebody on his father's side of the family was called Arthur. He said: "Arthur we've always liked as a name and Samantha found Elwen in a book. We thought it was a good name."
The West Oxfordshire Conservative Association e-mailed members last Friday informing them of the baby's name.
Mr Cameron is taking two weeks' paternity leave, dividing his time between London and the Witney constituency, but he said constituents would still receive a full service.
"We've had lots of lovely messages, lots of flowers and cards."
