A RETIRED nurse has delivered much-needed supplies to an Indonesian hospital, paid for by people in Witney.
Liz Hall-Bakker, of Tarrant Avenue, Witney, holds regular table-top sales under the town hall in Market Square, to raise funds and has been delivering aid to Indonesia, where she was born, since 1999.
In January, Mrs Hall-Bakker, 66, paid for her own flights and expenses on the trip to Jakarta, where she visited the Panti Usada Mulia hospital on the city's outskirts. She was delivering 110 new bedside tables, bought with £1,200 raised in West Oxfordshire.
She said: "The old ones had completely fallen apart.
"The hospital treats all the people who can't pay for their treatment. A lot of them are street people, a lot of them have mental health problems, and the conditions there are terrible."
The Rotary Club of Witney put Mrs Hall-Bakker in touch with the local branch in Jakarta, where she gave a talk.
