SCHOOLCHILDREN turned over a new leaf and got their teeth into best-selling novels for World Book Day.
The international celebration of the written word saw pupils enjoying visits from authors and dressing up as book characters.
Julia Evans, headteacher of Bampton Primary School, dressed up as the Queen of Hearts, only for teacher Paul Atkins, in a knave costume, to 'steal her tarts' and be arrested by real-life bobby, PC Steve Patrick. And in Cassington, St Peter's Primary School spent the day in costume, talking about their favourite stories and making bookmarks.
Headteacher, Ann-Marie Roisin, said the children, who dressed up in a variety of outfits, including Grace Brixton, nine, as Pippy Longstocking, and characters from Narnia, really enjoyed themselves.
