MEMBERS of Hanborough Bowls Club, which was founded in 1989, have been awarded £5,000 from Awards For All, the Lottery-funded support organisation which assists local communities and helps clubs, such as theirs, to upgrade their amenities.
The money will go towards extending the club's facilities at its Roosevelt Road premises, Long Hanborough, where they entertain guest clubs at least twice a week.
Club member Donald Coleman said the extension was long overdue. He said: "This extra funding means we will be able to provide more space for visiting teams, extend our toilet facilities, and even add a small meeting room, which can be used by the community."
Club chairman and president, Peter Brittin, said it was magnificent news, which has given the whole club a real lift.
He said: "Our facilities can be updated more in keeping with our present-day needs.
"Obviously, we are more than grateful to Awards for All, for their most welcome contribution towards the cost of our planned extension."
The club boasts a membership of at least 80 players, many of whom travel from surrounding villages to enjoy a game of bowls.
