2:57pm Monday 20th March 2006 in Witney
A FREE match day will be held on Saturday, March25, by Witney United as a thank-you to regular supporters and a call to arms for townspeople to back the team, writes Rosalind Miles.
Witney United will play Herefordshire team Pegasus in a GLS Hellenic Premier League game at the club's home ground, kicking off at 3pm.
Andrew Magnay, community liaison officer for the club, pictured, said: "As well as saying thank you to the regular supporters, we would like to give all residents of Witney a chance to come to support their local team and have a great family afternoon out.
"We are hoping for the highest attendance for a competitive match the club has ever seen."
The team is sixth in the league.
Mr Magnay added: "We are really progressing both on and off the field after only being formed in 2001, after the demise of Witney Town. Jamie Cook, an ex-Oxford United player, plays for us, and is among the top goal scorers in the league."

The club will be holding a charity raffle during the match, and funds raised will be shared equally between the club and the Oxford ACE centre, which provides technology and training to help with the communication and educational development of young people with physical and mental disabilities.
The match day is being sponsored by the Witney Gazette.
