9:00am Wednesday 29th March 2006 in Witney By Denise Barkley
STUDENTS studying Complementary Health and Beauty at Abingdon and Witney College took part in the Nailympics at The Studio, the college's own professional beauty salon in Witney, writes Denise Barkley.
Thirteen students entered the competition to see who could produce the best Easter-theme paint effect on false nails, or the most natural looking nail extensions. Nail Art and Nail Extensions are just two of the many treatments that are offered at the college, and the competition was an opportunity for students to show off their skills.
It was the idea of Angela Hayles, lecturer, after hearing about a national nail competition in London.
She said: "These competitions during training are really motivating for the students.
"They have to complete their task within a certain time, just as they would with a paying client in a salon.
"As this heightens awareness of competition in the business world, it will make them more employable."
Qualifications in nail art and other manicure techniques are offered at both Abingdon and Witney Campuses.
To book an appointment for a manicure or a beauty treatment, call The Studio reception, on 01993 208093.
