9:00am Wednesday 29th March 2006 in Witney By Jo Duckles
A DISQUALIFIED driver arrested after a police chase through the Barton estate, Oxford, has been sentenced to a community order.
Kevin Good, 20, of Wadards Meadow, Witney, had admitted driving while disqualified, failing to stop, and driving with no insurance.
Last week, he was sentenced to a 12-month supervision order, disqualified from driving for six months, and ordered to take part in a Think First Programme, designed to make offenders think before committing more crimes.
Magistrates had previously been told Good had been spotted by police who had been carrying out an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operation in Oxford on February 6.
ANPR cameras are linked to Police National Computer and DVLA databases, and scan numberplates to reveal if passing vehicles are insured, taxed, or linked to criminal activity.
Police in Barton attempted to stop Good, who was driving a Peugeot 205 along North Way.
He accelerated along Burchester Avenue, and police found the car in Brome Place.
The police helicopter was scrambled, and Good was arrested nearby.
