A BALDING middle-aged man wearing running gear assaulted a ten-year-girl when she was walking home alone in Bampton. The child was in Bushey Row path at about 5pm on Wednesday last week, when she was attacked. Police failed to release details of the attack for five days until Monday, when they made an appeal for witnesses. The attacker was described as a white man, wearing a white T-shirt, blue shorts, and trainers. After sexually assaulting the girl, he ran off towards the village centre shops. The young girl also ran home, and dialled 999. Police searched the area, but made no arrests. PC Mike Bennett said: "We believe that the man may have been jogging in the area, and I appeal to anyone who saw him to come forward." Thames Valley Police spokesman, Kate Smith, said officers had spoken to villagers as they searched the area. The following day, Bampton Primary school sent out letters to all parents informing them of the incident. Anyone with information should call PC Bennett, on 08458 505505, or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555111.
