WITNEY-BASED TV vet Joe Inglis will literally be eating a dog's dinner when he takes part in a 100-mile sponsored walk with his trusted pooch Jack.
Mr Inglis - from BBC's Vets in Practice - has created his own natural pet food, which he will be munching on during the week-long trip from Cirencester to London. He teamed up with Pets' Kitchen, to create Joe & Jack's dog food and Joe & Jill's cat food, which he named after his two pets.
Many may say he is barking mad, but during the walk he will chow down on 5kg of dried dog food, as well as some of his home-cooked recipes for dogs, including meatballs with marrowbone gravy and liver dumplings.
Money raised from sponsorship will go to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Mr Inglis, who works at Jackson Veterinary Clinics in Corn Street, Witney, and Carterton, said: "I've seen so many cats and dogs suffering from eating junk food. My recipes are based on human recipes, and are made from fresh ingredients.
"I thought if I put my name to something, it should be good enough for me to eat too.
He said: "Just like people, dogs and cats are what they eat, and it is vital that owners think about what they are feeding their pets."
With only a few days to go before he and his collie cross set off next Wednesday, Mr Inglis has been getting into training.
He said: "I've been eating Joe & Jack's Fresh Chicken and Rice for lunch for a few days, and to be honest, it's not bad - better than a lot of my home cooking."
