PUPILS from Eynsham have given their new school uniform top marks after voting for the trendy garb.

The standard issue outfits, worn by Bartholomew School students, have been created by Price & Buckland.

Pupils ditched the traditional shirt, tie, and multi-coloured uniform, and are now dressing for success in navy-themed polo shirts, special 'girls' fit tops, and sweatshirts. They chose the new clothes after a series of talks at student council meetings, questionnaires, and parent-teacher consultations.

The uniform has proved a big hit with the pupils.

Headteacher Andrew Hamilton said: "I chose to change the school uniform for this year, as it is important to me that the local community should see our students looking their best, to reflect the high standards which run throughout our school. It was also clear, from consultation with the student council, staff and parents, that a simpler and more comfortable uniform was required.

"A uniform can give youngsters a sense of belonging, and also help reduce low-level disruption, so we are hoping that by bringing in new school wear, these objectives will be met."

* Work has started on a new sports hall at Bartholomew School.

The existing hall will be demolished, to make way for a purpose-built, four-court building, with a large sports area, changing rooms, office space, reception, and storage.

The first floor will also be designed to include a community fitness facility.

The project, costing just over £1.7m, is being financed through the National Lottery's New Opportunities Fund and Oxfordshire County Council. It has also received financial support from West Oxfordshire District Council and Eynsham Parish Council.

The new hall should be ready by September next year.
