'The success speaks for itself'

FOODIES from Eynsham are waving the flag for British Food Fortnight.

British Food Fortnight is a two-week national promotion, created to generate more enthusiasm for British food and to promote the health benefits and pleasures of eating fresh seasonal and regional distinct produce. Eynsham traders are doing their bit to celebrate this national promotion. It got underway this week, and continues until October 8.

Sandy Helig invited fellow foodies to her deli Cornucopia, which she has been running for the past 18 months, to wave the flag for British food and celebrate the fact that the people of Eynsham are seeking out local produce and finding it in their local shops.

Corin Willett, proprietor of The Emporium, was there to celebrate the fact that Worton Farm Organics Produce sells their freshly harvested seasonal fruit and vegetables outside her premises every Saturday morning, and that she sells the equipment needed to prepare it.

Pat Atkins, member of the Eynsham Country Market team, is celebrating all the wonderful home-made cakes, fruit and vegetables the market members sell each Thursday morning in the village hall, and Martin Golsby is celebrating the British meat sold at his uncle's shop.

Corin Willett, from The Emporium, said: "The success of all our businesses speaks for itself. The tide is turning - people are now seeking fresh seasonal food and local produce. When customers visiting The Emporium stop for coffee, they are absolutely delighted to discover that the cakes we serve are made in the village from quality ingredients."

Martin Golsby agreed. He says that customers come to his uncle's shop because they know they can rely on the fact that their meat is British.
