GRACE Wheeler, 85, and her husband John, 87, celebrated six decades together with their family at their home in Curbridge.
Mrs Wheeler first set eyes on Mr Wheeler when she was delivering milk to his mum's house, at Frome, in Somerset, in 1946.
She said: "I took a fancy to him, but I didn't say anything to start with. The niece of a friend of mine was visiting, and this friend asked if I could take her niece out, because she couldn't, because she was expecting a baby.
"I took her to this dance, and John asked if he could walk her home, but she did not want to go with him, so he asked me. I said 'yes, of course!'"
Mr Wheeler added: "I was just playing hard to get to start with, but I definitely made the right choice in the end."
The couple married six months later.
They moved to Oxfordshire in 1964, and Mr Wheeler got a job making blankets for a company called Laverton's, in Westbury.
Mrs Wheeler, who used to work as a postwoman, added: "It has been a very happy marriage. We started with nothing, and we've gradually gone on and on, and only bought things when we could afford them. We have never got into debt, and we have never had credit cards."
