More than 5,000 people descended on the Standlake Arena for the thrill of watching live banger racing.

The annual Heavy Metal Classic is the club’s biggest event of the year and included 25 races with 180 drivers taking part on Sunday.

Driver Jason Kew, 26, from Bampton, said: “I’ve been racing for 16 years.

“Normally now I race with national hot rods, all over the country, but I always attend this event.

"There is a buzz when you drive it on to the track with all the spectators.”

Terry Barber, 38, from Witney, who has been racing alongside his brother Dean 40, for 20 years said: “My dad used to do it, me and my brother have always done it and even my son, who is 13, is getting involved in it.

“There is a thrill of getting in a car and smashing it up.”
