FOOTBALL: Witney Town fold
5:03pm Wednesday 13th February 2013 in Sport
Witney Town have folded due to lack of funds.
Earlier this month, the cash-strapped Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division club were evicted from the Community Stadium because they were unable to pay the rent.
Witney had hoped to groundshare with neighbours Carterton, but a lack of funds meant they were unable to sign a rental agreement.
The League’s general secretary Brian King said: “It is a sad indictment of the times that a club with the history of Witney Town FC is unable to continue.”

Not a fan of Witney and only ever been there a few times but a shame to see them fold.If you fancy watching some decent sport in Witney drop in at the Witney rugby club Its Sailsbury at home this weekend.
In addition Tower Hill Ladies this season are playing in the Southern Division 1 of the Woman's Football League.
However, it is still sad to read such a story, and hopefully the Chairman and Committee of Witney Town FC, will be able to re-structure the club in some way in the near future, thus be able to represent the town of Witney again, and give a gateway for talented youth players the chance to play at a higher level, as has been the case in the past.

Second only to Oxford Utd in the Seventies, even The TANK had a brief spell there. Surely the MP could help out.
Seriously though, it's a shame to see a historic club like Witney collapse in this way.
There were some great tussles in the early '70s in the Hellenic with Didcot, Bicester, Wallingford etc..
