Chipping Norton’s Sean Walkinshaw posted a hard-fought top-six Copa class place in the second round of the 2013 European Formula 3 Open Winter Series at Jerez in Spain on Saturday.

In his first competitive appearance at the track, the Team West-Tec driver matched the sixth-place finish he achieved on his championship debut.

Starting 21st on the grid, Walkin-shaw, 19, drove his Toyota-en-gined Dallara F308, to sixth for 14th overall in the combined classification.

“The race was always going to be hard work from where we started, and the tyres weren’t in great shape, but we still made some progress,” said Walkinshaw.

Walkinshaw is now gearing up to the start of the 2013 European F3 Open Championship on April 27-28 at Paul Ricard HTTT in France.
