HOCKEY: Leaders crash to shock defeat

Witney men stayed top of the Regional Division 2 table, despite suffering a shock 3-2 defeat at home to West Hampstead 3rd on Saturday.

Goals from Ben Wells and Dan Andrews were in vain as the visitors grabbed a winner when the ball rebounded of the upright before going in off keeper Si Howell’s head.

Witney 2nd won 3-0 at West Hampstead 5th in MBB&O Division 4 with goals from Tom Yallop, Mike Godwin and Scott Summers.

The win moves them into third place in Division 4, but still six points off promotion.

Witney 3rd’s dip in form continued as they slumped to third place in Division 6 following a 5-2 defeat at table-toppers Leighton Buzzard.

Witney 4th crashed to a 5-2 defeat at runaway Division 8 league leaders Ramgarhia 2nd.

Mike Roberts and Jo Taylor were the Witney marksmen.

Witney ladies kept up their excellent run in South Division 3A with a 2-1 win at Milton Keynes.

First-half goals from Izzy Hayes and Sabrina Shortland put Witney 2-0 up. Milton Keynes came back strongly in the second half, clawing one back, but Witney held on for victory.
