FOOTBALL: Rampant Millers in goal spree
10:00am Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Sport
NORTH Leigh ran rings around stunned hosts Taunton Town with a 3-1 victory to make it eight goals in two Division 1 South & West games.
The win keeps North Leigh in third place, a point behind leaders Paulton.
The visitors, who won 5-0 at home to Godalming last Tuesday with goals from Conor McDonagh (2), Morgan Wiliams and Josh Dutton-Black, hit the ground running on Saturday, taking the lead after just five minutes.
Elliott Osborne-Ricketts fired past Taunton’s keeper Kyle Moore from 15 yards.
Taunton equalised when striker Chris Young headed past a helpless Paul White in the Millers goal from a corner.
Brian Bowles replaced the injured Michael Alexis (hamstring tear) at the break.
The visitors had a scare when Taunton’s Steve Murray shot wide, but McDonagh broke clear and finished neatly to put them back into the lead.
The game was effectively put to bed on 64 minutes when Williams was hacked down by defender Ben Mammola. Referee Ian Roberts awarded the penalty, from which Stuart Hole scored, as well as dismissing the Taunton defender.
On Saturday, they are at home to Cinderford Town.
