BADMINTON: Garrison is in the medals
5:03pm Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in Sport
Witney's Ashley Garrison kept up his winning ways with a bronze medal in the boys’ singles at the Badminton England under 17 Silver-graded tournament in Essex.
The Henry Box School pupil reached the semi-finals by winning his opening three matches, beating Wiltshire’s Henry Prothero in the first round of the knockout and then England under 15 player Calum Hemmings, of Bucks, 15-10, 12-15, 16-14 in a nail-biting quarter-final.
He then teamed up with regular partner, Joe Roberts, of Brize Norton, also at Henry Box School, to reach the boys doubles final.
They won their first three games without dropping a set, before despatching William Manners and Ben Richards, of Surrey, 15-9, 15-9 in the knockout stage and No 2 seeds, Zac Pallier and Chris Wood, of Essex, in a tough three-set quarter-final.
They then had to settle for a well-deserved silver medal after a bruising three-set defeat in the final against Buckinghamshire No 1 seeds Sean Chal and Jonathan Tang, 14-16, 15-13, 15-12.
