MOTORSPORT: Boullier is forced to say sorry
6:32pm Wednesday 30th October 2013 in Sport
Eric Boullier, team principal of the Enstone-based Lotus outfit, has apologised for the radio exchange between Kimi Raikkonen and the pit in Sunday’s Indian Grand Prix.
Raikkonen, struggling on badly-worn tyres, was challenged for third place by his teammate, Romain Grosjean, who was forced wide.
It led to an angry exchange over the team radio, with an engineer using an expletive in telling Raikkonen to “get out of the way”.
Grosjean finally went past to claim third, while Raikkonen was seventh.
“With hind-sight, this radio message could have been sent in a less emotional way,” said Boullier. “There was a lot of tension and some of the words that flew around were not appropriate.
“I can only apologise.”
