Chipping Norton School’s Megan Humphreys was foiled in her bid for a hat-trick of Oxfordshire Cross Country Championship titles at a muddy Radley College.

The 16-year-old, last year’s intermediate girls’ champion and the winner of the junior race in 2012, finished second in last Tuesday’s 3.4km intermediate event.

Humphreys led before being passed by last year’s junior champion, Fiona Bunn, from St Helen & St Katharine, Abingdon.

Kingham Hill School’s Emma Slevin finshed runner-up in the 4.1km senior girls’ race to Beth Hawtin, from Gosford Hill School, Kidlin-gton, who was claiming her fourth title.

Ciara Huxley, from Bartho-lomew School, Eynsham, was sixth.

Jessica O’Connor, of Marlb-orough School, Woodstock, occupied the same spot in the 2.9km junior girls’ race won by Gosford Hill’s Chloe Ride-wood.

James Currah, from Henry Box School, Witney, finished fou-rth in the senior boys’ race.

The 17-year-old, winner of the intermediate race 12 months ago, finished just outside the frame as Abingdon School’s Christian von Eitzen claimed his third title in the 7.5km event.

Carterton School’s George Meyer was sixth in the junior race over 4.6km, with Faringdon School’s Will Crisp repeating last year’s success.

The top eight in each race now go on to represent Oxfordshire in the English Schools’ Championship at Donington Park, Leicester-shire, on Saturday, March 15.
