Three Chipping Norton youngsters have been selected to represent Great Britain in the Federation of International Roller Sports World Cup in Las Vegas this summer.

Outfield players Devon Shadbolt, 11, and Jake Williams, 12, and netminder Brett Massey, 11, won a place in the final squad of 12 from more than 400 boys, who attended a series of six trials in Sheffield.

Now the trio, who are members of the Chippy Trixsters club, can look forward to playing for the British Inline Puck Hockey Association’s under 12s side alongside 40 other teams in America from July 12-21.

Chipping Norton club chairman and coach George Lewis was proud of the youngsters’ selection.

He explained that Devon had done particularly well after struggling with a condition which badly affected his joints and ligaments.

“He has just loved it and now is probably one of the strongest players for his age group in the country,” he said.

“Brett is a real sportsman and has excelled at this.

“And Jake has huge natural ability and is an integral part of the club.”

Lewis also felt the boys’ call-ups was a feather in the cap for the club, which was founded by Dave Edwards.

He added: “It is fantastic the way the club has really taken off big time in the last couple of years.”

Devon’s mum, Tracey, added: “It is just a wonderful opportunity for them to go and represent their country, especially at the age of 11.”

With it set to cost around £4,000 to pay for each youngster’s trip, the club are keen to attract sponsorship.
