Witney bounced back from two narrow defeats in South West 1 East to triumph 31-13 at Marlow.

The visitors were far from at their best, but managed to score five tries.

And they got off to the perfect start, opening the scoring within 30 seconds.

Marlow knocked on fly half Matt Clarke’s kick and Scott Mortimer combined with scrum half Gareth Campbell to send lock Charlie Bennett charging over to the right of the posts.

Although Russell Pearce cut their lead with a penalty, flanker Tim Muller shot through a gap to score under the posts to put Witney 12–3 up after good work from No 8 Joe Rowles.

Pearce converted a second penalty before Gareth Camp-bell scored try No 3 after Muller took the ball in the air from Witney’s kick-off for a 19-6 advantage.

After the break, Witney stretched their lead when a clever move involving centre Carl Strutt saw Bennett get his second try for 26-6.

However, some missed tackles allowed Jack Rider to touch down for a converted try to cut Witney’s lead.

But the visitors sealed victory when replacement James Monks scored their fifth try.

Clarke kicked three conversions as Witney went ahead of Grove into fifth place by virtue of matches won.

Chipping Norton went down to a 32-17 defeat at Hungerford in BBO Premier.

Thomas Tanner, Tig Tebb and Joe Murrell scored tries for the visitors, Darren De Bruyn converting one.
