Equestrian star Charlotte Bacon has targeted a place in the Olympics after being honoured at the annual presentation night at the Witney Lakes resort on Monday.

Bacon, 16, was voted sole winner of the World Class Talent award after excelling in equestrian eventing.

She achieved team bronze and finished in 11th place in the individual event at the 2013 Junior European Even-ting Championships.

“It’s really generous of the Council and GLL to give me an award like this and it will definitely go towards my training and development,” said Bacon.

“I’m very grateful. I am aiming high and want to make it to the big stage – I hope to the get to the Olympics.”

The awards are organised annually by West Oxfordshire District Council in conjunction with the GLL Sports Foundation.

The winners received funding of between £100 and £1,000 to help with costs associated with their sport.

They also receive free training membership at Council-owned leisure facilities in West Oxfordshire, which are managed by leisure provider GLL Better, founder of the GLL Sport Foundation.

Cllr Richard Langridge, Cabinet Member responsible for leisure, said: “It is an absolute privilege to honour the passion, dedication and commitment of these local sportspeople, who set an outstanding example for us all.

“They are flying the flag for West Oxfordshire locally, nationally and, in some cases, worldwide and our council is very proud to support them as they develop their careers and achieve their goals.”
