Chipping Norton skater hockey club coach Dave Edwards was among the winners at the town’s annual sports awards.

Around 200 people attended the fifth annual ceremony at the town hall, with Mayor Mike Tysoe guest of honour.

Edwards, 32, won the over 18 sportsperson award after setting up the street hockey team in 2009 to promote minority sports to young people.

And he now has the largest under 14 team in Britain, as well as three playing for the national team.

Edwards, from Woodstock, said: “I was really pleased with the award because I’ve put a lot of effort into it.”

Alice Powell got a special award for her achievements in motorsport.

Chipping Norton School’s under 12 rugby team won the under 18 team award after triumphing in district and county competitions last season.

Pupil Tom Martin, 16, also won the sportsperson award for ages 11 to 17.
