Woodstock Wanderers found Northway Res too hot to handle as they went down to a 3-0 defeat in the Ridgeway Cup final at Abingdon Town’s Culham Road on Sunday.
With both Division 2 sides locked together in a promotion fight for next season it promised to be a tight affair.
So the scoreline was a little surprising as Wanderers couldn’t find their usual rhythm.
In fact, the Oxford outfit pretty much controlled the game, with keeper Luke Watts rarely called into action.
Sean Herman grabbed a brace with a goal in each half, assisted by Aaron Williams, with Ant Simpson getting their other after Will Oliver nodded on a Lewis Colwell free-kick.
Wanderers’ duo Tom Nee and Dave Villiers both looked capable of unlocking a mean Northway defence but found it impregnable on the day, ably marshalled by veteran Carl Hibbins.
The only time Northway’s goal looked under threat was when Woodstock’s player-manager Ben Fouracre put himself on.
But Northway’s superior finishing told as they lifted their first silverware in their history.
