Witney wrapped up a fourth-place finish in South West 1 East with a 34-14 triumph at Swindon on Saturday.

The visitors put the hosts on the back foot from the start and took the lead with a drop goal from fly half Phil Thomas.

And they kept up the pressure, making it 8-0 on 35 minutes when left wing Carl Strutt charged over from 20 metres after some slick passing through the backs for an unconverted try.

However, Swindon hit back with a try from Adam Westall, which he converted to cut Witney’s advantage to a point.

But the visitors stretched their advantage when Charlie Bennett combined with Henry Lamb before releasing Ted Landray who avoided some last ditch tackles to score near the touchline on the right.

Witney made it 16-7 on half-time when Landray kicked a penalty goal.

Four minutes into the second half, the dominant visitors went further ahead when prop Jamie Burke crashed over from a ruck following a superb break from scrum half Gareth Campbell for 21-7.

Some Swindon indiscipline allowed Landray to slot two penalties in quick succession for 27-7.

The hosts had two players sinbinned, but it was then they enjoyed their best spell of the game, cutting Witney’s lead with a converted try.

However, Witney then put their foot back on the gas with full back Matt Clarke coming into the line before breaking a number of tackles to score, with Thomas adding the extra points to wrap up an impressive win.
