Spiraea gave Leafield owner-trainer Mark Rimell a welcome winner with a last-gasp success to open her account with victory at Salisbury.

The four-year-old filly pipped New Decade by a short head in a thrilling finish to a six-furlong handicap, with Richard Hughes in the saddle.

Rimell reported that he had done a deal to sell the daughter of Bahamian Bounty for a six-figure sum to a syndicate of owners in the United States last year only for it to fall through.

As a result he retained the ownership of the 6-1 shot, although he said she was still for sale.

Ladweb followed up his Brighton win for Chastleton trainer John Gallagher by finishing with a flourish to score at Nottingham.

The four-year-old was held up by apprentice jockey Louis Steward before being produced in the last 50 yards of a five-furlong handicap to beat Moorhouse Lad by half a length.

He could now bid to complete the hat-trick at Bath on Thursday.
