Great & Little Tew hammered Cumnor by nine wickets in a one-sided Oxfordshire Davidstow Cup final on Sunday.

Joe White’s unbeaten 69 led hosts Tew to 129-1 and victory in exactly 21 overs after a disciplined bowling display had restricted Cumnor to just 126.

Tew visit Dorset/Wiltshire champions Parley in the first national round on June 22.

White hit ten fours in his 57-ball knock and received solid support from Markus Jeacock (31) before Harry Smith helped finish the job.

Cumnor, who opted to bat, were second best throughout.

They were pegged back by openers Lawrence Brock and Robbie Shurmer, finding themselves 20-2 after ten overs.

James Lee and James Fitzjohn were the early victims before Matt Lake and Sam Jones rebuild the innings.

Skipper Andy Harris removed his opposite number just before the drinks interval, which came with Cumnor 57-3.

The visitors soon nosedived to 71-6, with James Douglas, Ali Morteza and Harry Ackland going cheaply.

Morteza, a potential dangerman, was well caught in the deep by Catling for a first-ball duck off Harris.

Carl Thompson was left kicking himself after driving uppishly to Harris at mid-off to make it 91-7.

They had just reached 100 when Max Mannering fell and it was all over when Jones holed out for 38 off 67 balls.

Adam Jones hit one defiant six, but was caught out by Jack Haggett off the final ball.

This gave Harris a fourth wicket, but it had been a well-controlled bowling display, with Shurmer, Ian Bryan and White taking two victims each.

White and Jeacock began the Tew reply comfortably.

With White the more fluent, they eased to 40-0 after ten overs – although White was dropped. He made the most of his second chance by racing to 50 off as many balls.

The only danger for Tew was whether rain might stop them batting the 20 overs required to constitute a match.

But Tew were good value for their victory.
