Pastor Maldonado completed an eventful weekend with a 12th-placed finish in Sunday’s Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.

There was drama in Friday’s practice when the Venezuelan, from the Enst-one-based Lotus team, ended Mercedes’ run of seven consecutive one-two finishes when he crashed into a wall, bringing out the red flags.

Involved in more crashes than most throughout his career, he lost the rear of his car emerging out of turn ten, sending the front-right ploughing into a wall.

He said after the race: “We got the maximum out of our performance today and we had a strong consistent race.

“I’m pretty happy about this after the issues we had earlier in the weekend. It was a tough race, especially the last ten laps where the tyres needed a lot of managing.”

Grosjean added: “Things were looking pretty alright until the safety car (came out), we were fighting for points.

“Unfortunately, I tried to attack too hard on the restart.

“I wanted to give it everything and with cold soft tyres after a slow safety car period, it was just too much. From then, I couldn’t pass up through the field to get points.”
