Witney's 17-15 home defeat to Leighton Buzzard in South West 1 East was overshadowed by an horrific injury to flanker Carl Campbell.
The Witney stalwart broke his left kneecap into three pieces during the match at Hailey Road.
Witney blew a 15-0 lead as Buzzard came on strong.
A strong start saw lock Charlie Bennett power over for Witney’s opening try.
Witney wing Ben Fisk twisted his way over for try No 2.
The hosts then lost Campbell to injury and centre Henry Lamb to a yellow card.
Witney led 10-0 at the break and scored a third try when half backs Gareth Campbell and Phil Thomas set up Fisk for his brace.
Buzzard gave themselves hope with a try.
Witney lock Richard Haire was yellow-carded for punching, which allowed the visitors to press further.
Buzzard scored again from a driving maul and won it with a late converted try.
