Siblings Christian and Natalia Mitchell, from Woodstock, both won double gold on a successful weekend for the west Oxfordshire youngsters.

Christian Mitchell and his partner Toby Leung (Devon) landed the boys double title at the Lilleshall under 13 gold tournament.

They defeated the Swedish No 1 Tom Soderstrom and Chad Warren 21-16, 21-19 in the semi-final.

They then went on to see off the challenge of England pairing Akhil Pillai and Alex Green 21-17, 21-11 in the final.

Christian also won the mixed doubles with Keira Henry (Warwickshire) by beating another England player Neil Babhuta and Safia Khimji (Oxfordshire) 21-19, 21-11 in the semi-finals.

The talented duo followed up their success by seeing off the challenge of England players Alex Green and Asmita Chaudhari 21-17, 21-12 in the final.

Khimji also won a bronze in the mixed doubles.

Natalia Mitchell bagged a bronze medal in singles event at the Worcester under 15 silver tournament, but her glory came when she took both the doubles titles.

In the girls’ doubles, Mitchell and May Burke (Warwickshire) landed the title by impressively winning all three of their matches in straight games 15-6, 15-10, 15-5, 15-9, 15-6 and 15-8. In the mixed competition, Mitchell was indebted to a heroic performance from Jamie Cackett (Abingdon), who was injured in their second match, but played four more contests.

That included a19-17, 16-18, 16-14 victory in the final against the second pair.

Two pupils from the Henry Box School in Witney had two reasons to celebrate after a double success at Oxfordshire Schools Under 15 Tournament at Radley College near Abingdon on Saturday.

Ryan Holmes took the singles title, with Finlay Heritage finishing as runner-up.

Holmes and Heritage completed a highly successful tournament by triumphing in the doubles encounter.
