SWIMMING: Super Foggett leads the way

Witney's A team recorded a morale-boosting victory in their second round gala of this year's Home Counties League competition at Temple Cowley Pools on Saturday.

But it would have been so different had nearest rivals City of Oxford not entered an over-age swimmer in two events.

Witney won by just four points, despite trailing for most of the night.

Nine-year-old Alex Foggett produced two great anchor legs to give the 11 and under freestyle and medley relay teams two victories and earned himself the club's swimmer-of-the-match award.

The runner-up votes were shared between Chloe Smith (winner of the 11 and under breaststroke) and Mark Kemp (first in the 15 and under backstroke).

RESULT

1 Witney A 246, 2 City of Oxford 242, 3 Houghton Regis 201, 4 Linslade Crusaders 167, 5 Bletchley & District 129.

Other Witney winners: A Whiteley (breaststroke), C Taylor (backstroke), N Harkin (butterfly and freestyle), J Cockroft (breaststroke), G Cable (breaststroke), D Harkin (breaststroke).

Witney personal bests: E Moore (backstroke), H Brooke-Little (breaststroke), T Ashton (butterfly and freestyle), O Uden (butterfly and freestyle), T Wolf (backstroke and free style), M Wilmshurst (freestyle), J Possee (backstroke and freestyle), S Bark (breaststroke), D Harkin (freestyle).

Witney's B team produced plenty of determined efforts against A team opposition in second round gala of their Home Counties League competition at Luton.

Leah Gorman was never headed in winning the girls' 15 and under butterfly and took a well-deserved swimmer-of-the-match award.

Harry Hall's efforts in the 13 and under boys' backstroke and freestyle earned him the runner-up vote.

Result: 1 Luton A 257, 2 Wellingborough 211, 3 Bicester 196, 4 Putteridge 148, 5 Witney B 147, 6 Newport Pagnell 83.
