North Leigh fought back from a goal down to hold Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West play-off chasers Didcot Town to a 2-2 draw at Eynsham Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

The visitors started the stronger, with Sam Elkins and Jimmy Deabill denied by Matt Bulman in the Millers’ goal.

So it was against the run of play that the hosts went ahead on 18 minutes.

Jon Else’s cross found Michael Hopkins, who clipped a shot into the far corner past James Foster from five yards.

North Leigh’s Kieran Sanders had the ball in the net, but it was ruled offside.

Didcot levelled in first-half injury time when former North Leigh striker John Mills fired past Bulman.

Didcot went ahead on 55 minutes when Mills controlled a Deabill flick, before bagging his 55th goal of the season.

However, the Millers equalised on 59 minutes.

Brian Bowles went on a mazy run from inside the Didcot half, before hitting a right-footed shot from six yards which Foster got a hand to, but couldn’t prevent going over the line.

North Leigh’s Morgan Williams might have won it at the death, but fired wide from three yards.

On Saturday, North Leigh had to settle for a 1-1 draw at AFC Totton, despite dominating much of the clash.

The Millers went behind after six minutes. A mix-up let in Totton’s Nathaniel Sherborne whose cross was stabbed in by Nathan Hurst.

North Leigh put the Totton defence under sustained pressure.

Kieran Sanders, Morgan Williams and Michael Hopkins gave full back Ellis White so much grief he was booked for a number of late tackles and subbed at half-time.

Hopkins saw his snapshot whistle over, before the visitors equalised on 40 minutes.

Sanders ran parallel to the bye-line before passing to Zak Westlake, who clipped home from close range.

Callum McNish set up a number of chances in the second half, the best of which saw Jamie Cook scuff a close-range shot.

At the other end, North Leigh keeper Bulman thwarted two breakaway chances for the home side.
