An impressive 76-run win at Aston Rowant saw Shipton-under-Wychwood make it back-to-back victories in Division 2 on Saturday.

A second-wicket partnership of 93 between Andrew Hemming and George Seacole laid the foundations for Shipton’s 239-9 after they won the toss.

And only Josh Smith made a fist of Rowant’s reply, his 72 proving in vain as they were dismissed for 163 in the 46th over, with five batsmen making ducks.

Craig Wood was the first Shipton batsman to fall, bowled by Gordon Harris with the score on 37.

But Hemming and Seacole then shared a superb stand, which put their side in control.

Seacole was eventually caught by Adam Muttitt off the bowling of Chris Watling for 44, before the same combination accounted for Jamie Perkin.

Hemming was next to go, his 67 coming off 113 balls as Shipton were 175-4.

Sam Jones fell without adding to the score, and Jason Hunt quickly followed him back to the pavilion, given out lbw off Watling.

However, Anupam Sanklecha smashed a rapid 48 off 31 balls, which included seven fours and a six, as Shipton closed on 239-9.

In reply, Seacole wasted little time in getting stuck into the Rowant top order, having Richard Cook caught by Hemming and Dan Matthews taken by Sanklecha, both for nought, as the visitors fell to 11-2.

Hemming then caught Tim Morgan off Charlie Brain, before the same player dismissed Watling, taken by Sanklecha, as Rowant were 53-4.

An 80-run stand between Smith and Andrew Dyer gave Rowant some hope, but once Dyer fell for 39, there was little more resistence offered.

George Storton, Muttitt and Tom Needham were all dismissed without troubling the scorer, while Lewis Quainton was run out by Liam Hare for just one.

Smith’s brave innings came to an end when he was bowled by Jones for 72, off 114 balls, as Rowant fell well short.
