Pastor Maldonado will be hoping for a change of luck in this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

Last time out, he lasted just two laps of the British Grand Prix before being forced to retire with a badlydamaged car after being shunted into teammate Romain Grosjean by Daniel Ricciardo.

As the campaign reaches halfway, the Venezuelan, who drives for the Enstone-based Lotus team, admitted it could have been better.

“My target is the same as for all the races at the start of the year; to score as many points as possible and finish the race in the best position I can,” said Maldonado.

“I think my first half report card would say good things for effort, but the results didn’t come.

“Certainly, I believe we’ll get better finishes in the second half of the season.”

Meanwhile, Sean Walkinshaw is relishing his first appearance in the annual Total 24 Hours of Spa at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps this weekend.

The 21-year-old driver from Chipping Norton has previously contested a 12-hour length contest, a race run in two six-hour instalments in Abu Dhabi last November, so this will be his longest race by far.

“I’m obviously really excited for my first 24-hour race, it’s definitely going to be the biggest race I’ve ever taken part in”, he said.

“This is the one you pretty much look forward to all season, it’s going to be a massive challenge especially as I’ve never raced at night before and then there is the physical and mental strain of competing over a 24 hour period.”
