SEAN Walkinshaw was left thinking about what might have been after missing out on a podium in the penultimate round of the Blancpain Sprint Series at Misano.

The 21-year-old, from Chipping Norton, and Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 co-driver Craig Dolby saw a rostrum slip from their grasp in the qualification race, due to a cross-threaded wheel nut during the pitstop.

They then finished fifth in the main race, leaving them tenth in the standings ahead of the last round in Zandvoort, Netherlands, this weekend.

Walkinshaw said: “Considering where we were after the first stint in the qualification race, we should comfortably have had two podiums – we had fastest lap in both races with Craig and we both had mega pace.

“Unfortunately we had a cross-threaded wheel nut in the pitstop in race one, so we lost the chance of the podium but everyone could see what the car was capable of.”

Taking over from Dolby in the pit stop during the qualification race, Walkinshaw resumed in last place, from second place, after the issue with the wheel nut.

But he progressed through the field to finish ninth.
