WEAKENED Witney were involved in an amazing 4-4 draw away to West Hampstead 3rd on Saturday.
But the result ended Witney’s realistic chances of promotion from Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Division 1.
In a fluctuating game, Witney twice trailed in the first half.
Hampstead regained the lead with a penalty stroke after a goalbound shot struck Harry Harbage’s foot.
Again Witney equalised with a rare foray upfield by defender Craig Summers.
After a half-time chat, Witney went ahead through a reverse shot from Rory Heaslip.
Despite the best efforts of Fraser Barnard, Tom Wood and Ben Larbalestier, the Middlesex side scored twice more, the first through a lucky touch off Craig Simms’ clearance.
Witney went on all out attack, forcing several corners.
Eventually, Harry Swift’s corner went to the wrong person, but it turned out OK as Heaslip sent a powerful flick into the top left corner to make it 4-4.
However, the victory Witney needed to stay in the promotion race eluded them.
