CHARLIE Raglan is hoping to use some inside information to his advantage in a bid to help Oxford United extend their excellent defensive record.

The centre back has yet to experience conceding a goal since joining on loan from Chesterfield on transfer deadline day.

A run of three successive clean sheets has followed and another shut-out against Charlton Athletic tomorrow would make it United’s best run for almost three years.

The Addicks squad includes Lee Novak, who was a teammate of Raglan’s at Chesterfield last season.

The pair are friends, but it will get very frosty if the dangerous striker starts at the Kassam Stadium.

Raglan said: “I’ll be trying to warn the lads about him and hopefully we can deal with everything they throw at us.

“He’s a mate, but he won’t be one during the game – I definitely won’t be his mate and I know that.

“He’s everything you want in a striker – he’s big, strong, quick and scores goals.

“I’m surprised he’s playing in League One, but Charlton are a big club. He came to us as a struggling team and scored 15 goals.

“We’re under no illusions it will be another tough game.”

Raglan was only brought in as an emergency measure last month due to a pile-up of defensive injuries.

The 23-year-old was realistic enough at the time to acknowledge he had to play well immediately to avoid losing his place when teammates returned to fitness.

Curtis Nelson, one of United’s big summer signings, is expected back in full training at the end of next week after recovering from a foot injury.

But the former Plymouth skipper may have to be patient, with Raglan performing strongly alongside Chey Dunkley.

He said: “I did say I wasn’t going to be afforded time to have a couple of games here and there, which is to be expected.

“I’m pleased I’ve come in and been a part of a team that has done well.

“I hope to keep the shirt but that’s down to me.

“When I get the chance to play I’ve got to play well and keep training well.

“But the more bodies we can get back the better it will be for the team because there’s a lot of games coming up.”
