SHARP Rise flies the flag for Charlie Longsdon’s Chipping Norton stables in the American Grand National at Far Hills, New Jersey, on Saturday.
The nine-year-old, who has won four of his six starts since being bought by owner Robert Aplin for £32,000 at the Goffs UK Sales at Doncaster in May, set off on his Stateside mission from Hull Farm Stables last Wednesday.
The gelding is set to face an international field in America’s leading steeplechase, which is run over two miles and five furlongs, and carries prize-money of $350,000.
Sharp Rise has won £53,744 since joining Longsdon, with his haul helping the trainer top the championship table briefly on Saturday night, before he was overhauled by Paul Nicholls the following day.
