NICO Hulkenberg cannot wait to begin a new challenge after joining Enstone-based Renault for the 2017 season.

The 29-year-old German, who made his Formula 1 debut in 2010, will leave Force India at the end of this year’s campaign.

Hulkenberg is looking forward to playing a major role for the team.

He said: “It has always been my dream to work for a manufacturer team.

“In the years to come, Renault will play a challenger role, which fits my approach to racing 100 per cent.

“I can’t wait to become part of the family.”

Meanwhile, F1 heads to the Circuit of the Americas, Texas, for this weekend’s United States Grand Prix.

Renault’s Jolyon Palmer and Kevin Magnussen came 12th and 14th respectively in Japan last time out.

Team principal Fred Vasseur said: “The last results, independent of the points scored by Jo or Kevin, have energised the team.”

“It confirms we are moving forward, which is always very positive.”
