OXFORD United have missed out on a six-figure bonus after Leeds United failed to reach the Sky Bet Championship play-offs.
Huddersfield Town and Reading meet in the final at Wembley this afternoon to contest a place in the Premier League next season.
Leeds were in the running for a top-six finish until they dropped out of contention in the final fortnight of the campaign.
It is a blow for the U’s, who as part of the deal which saw Kemar Roofe move to Elland Road last summer stand to gain a figure believed to be in the region of £500,000 if they go up.
Head coach Michael Appleton said: “We would have had a little windfall through the Roofe deal if they had got promoted, but I think it lasts for the length of his first contract.”
United will face Blackpool next season after they beat Exeter in the League Two play-off final.
