ROBERT Kubica will make no hasty decisions on his future after completing his first official Formula 1 test in more than six years.

The 32-year-old completed 142 laps – the equivalent of two grand prix – for Enstone-based Renault in Hungary on Wednesday.

Kubica, who was tasked with various aerodynamic and tyre assessments, made his return after partially severing his right arm in a rallying crash in 2011.

He did not take long to get back into the groove, setting a best lap of 1min 18.572secs – the fourth quickest in the field and his fastest time at the Hungaroring, where he made his Formula 1 debut almost 11 years ago.

The Pole said: “It has been an incredible journey to this point, where I have answered many questions to myself.

“I learnt a lot about the latest generation car, as there are a reasonable amount of differences between it and the Formula 1 cars I have driven in the past.

“It’s too early to say what the next step might be.”

Renault’s test driver Nicholas Latifi tested the car’s aerodynamics on Monday, posting the seventh fastest time.

Grove-based Williams worked on mechanical set-up and their chassis.

Lance Stroll was behind the wheel on Monday after Felipe Massa fell ill at last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

Luca Ghiotto made his Formula 1 test debut on Tuesday.

He said: “It has been more unbelievable than I thought it could have been.

“I am really happy, especially because I can see the team is happy about the work we’ve done, all the things we’ve tested have worked out well.”

Banbury-based Haas were also at the test, with development driver Santino Ferrucci, predominantly working on set-up.

He said: “We made a lot of forward progress, especially with the car and how the tires start off. I’m really happy with the team and I think we did a really good job.”

Formula 1 now enters its summer shutdown, before returning to action on August 25-27 for the Belgian Grand Prix.
