PEP Clotet predicts Oxford United’s approach this season will see goals spread widely across the squad.

The U’s manager added to his midfield and defensive options by signing Alex Mowatt and John Mousinho on deadline day last week.

But he did not bring in a forward, having allowed winger Marvin Johnson to be sold to Middlesbrough, while striker Kane Hemmings was loaned out to Mansfield Town a fortnight ago.

Clotet is happy with his squad, though, declining the chance to do any late business up front.

He believes United’s style will lead to goals being shared out – which appears to be backed up by ten players already opening their account in the opening seven games.

He said: “In my idea for our football, we all attack and all defend.

“When you do it right the goals get spread automatically, because everyone will get scoring chances.”

He added: “It looks strange, but we followed the same plan in the whole of the transfer window.

“I was quite calm (on deadline day), about 4.30pm I said to the staff we can call it a day.

“We said no to a lot of things that came up at the last minute because it was not worth it.

“We had a plan and we worked it.”

With the window closed, clubs are unable to sign contracted players on permanent deals or on loan.

But anyone still a free agent can join at any time.

While not ruling anything out, Clotet is not looking to dip into the market at this stage.

He said: “If any new player comes up now you can sign you are always open to anything.

“But it’s more difficult to find the right one.

“If it happens I don’t know, I’m not really focused on it.”
