ZAC Oliver hit a hat-trick as Clanfield 85’s poor run was ended in style with a 3-0 victory at leaders Ardley United.

The result tore up the form book, with the hosts having gone into the game with a perfect ten wins out of ten in Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 West.

Clanfield had only collected two points from their previous eight games, but rose to the occasion.

With manager Peter Osborne serving a suspension, his deputies, Jamie Butt and Martin Staddon, fielded a team which included four members of the club’s successful under 18 side.

Oliver was among them and after a couple of near-misses he opened the scoring three minutes before the break, cutting in from the right flank and curling a left-footed shot into the top corner.

Clanfield needed goalkeeper Jamie Zoldan on top form after half-time, as the leaders pushed for an equaliser.

Instead, the lead was extended in the 62nd minute, when Oliver collected Conor Tinsley’s pass, outtpaced his marker and rounded the keeper before sliding the ball in from a narrow angle.

Zoldan had plenty of work to do in the closing stages, before Oliver sealed a superb victory with another cool finish.

CLANFIELD Under 18s’ historic run in the FA Youth Cup came to an end when they lost 7-1 away to Dagenham & Redbridge in the second round.

The Uhlsport Hellenic League club held out for 36 minutes before the hosts scored twice to take a 2-0 interval lead.

Dagenham, who will now travel to Oxford United in the next round, made it 6-0, before Frankie Cato scored from the penalty spot for Clanfield.
