ROB Dickie thought his goal summed up Oxford United’s afternoon – it was all about being in the right place at the right time.

The centre back kick-started a crucial 2-1 home win against Peterborough United by opening the scoring in the sixth minute.

Dickie, whose last goal came in October 2016 while on loan at Cheltenham Town, was on hand to deflect the ball over the line after James Henry’s corner was not cleared.

A blustery wind which swirled the light snow around the Kassam Stadium played its part in the goal and made life difficult for defenders.

But Dickie, a January signing from Reading, felt the home side dealt with the conditions well.

He said: “I’ll take the goals however they come. I’m just happy we got three points.

“Sometimes you get lucky and thankfully for me today I was the lucky one.

“There were always going to be a lot of second balls with the wind swirling around. I thought we handled it really well.

“It’s no secret we’re not the most physical side in the world, but we’ve got a lot of fight and hunger.

“In those difficult conditions you’ve just got to try to guess you’ll be in the right place.

“Most of the time – not just the defenders, but everyone – we were in the right place at the right time to deal with it.”

United were good value for their 2-0 lead just after the hour, but then had to dig in after Peterborough quickly pulled a goal back.

Dickie added: “Faz asked us to handle it if there were ever any disappointments and keep a cool head.

“I thought that was exactly what we did.

“We limited the amount of risks we took and overall I thought it was a good performance.

“It wasn’t our best performance, I think in recent weeks you could argue we’ve played better, but here we got the result.

“We feel like we deserved that and it is a big lift.”
