MORE than 7,000 athletes, ranging from world-class stars to beginners, took part in the Bloodwise Blenheim Triathlon at Woodstock to raise money for charity.
The event raised £250,000 to support the UK’s specialist blood cancer charity, Bloodwise, which will help fund vital research, clinical drugs trials and patient support services.
Notable entrants including European cycling Champion Andy Tennant, who took part in the relay event on the first day.
There were close contests in the men’s and women’s elite races.
Iestyn Harrett, from Wales, came home first, crossing the line in 58mins 14secs, after a 750m swim, 19.8km bike ride and a 5.4k run.
He had an exciting showdown with Morgan Davies and Chris Perham, who trailed him by just six and ten seconds respectively to come second and third.
The female elite race saw 21-year-old Bronwen Owen take top spot 1.07.44, narrowly holding off Olivia Matthews and Jenny Manners
The event also saw 125 ‘weekend warriors’ complete 365 sprint distance triathlons on the first day, covering nearly 6,000 miles.
