The Witney RR pairing finished first and second at the Steeple Barton 5km on Sunday after also running for the club at the Ridgeway Relay, where Eynsham RR were fourth.

RACING: Way Out West recorded his first win for Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon with a comfortable success at Southwell.

The five-year-old had not troubled the judge in seven starts since joining Longsdon’s Hull Farm Stables after landing a Sedgefield National Hunt Flat Race on his debut for County Antrim handler Stuart Crawford 13 months ago.

But the son of Westerner’s turn came again when he defied top weight in an extended mile and seven furlong handicap hurdle with a six-lengths verdict over Scotsbrook Night under Jonathan Burke.

BOWLS: Rob Chapman became Wychwood BC’s singles champion with a narrow victory over Peter Newnham in the final.

Tim Brunsden landed the annual 30-Up competition, beating Jean Hiatt.

Hiatt won her semi-final against husband Bob with her very last bowl, while Brunsden had a less stressful win over Mike Taylor.
